Start of Semester
1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I envision using art in my classroom every day. That is a goal of mine. I would like to integrate art with many other subjects, and have my students enjoy art. I do not want art to be something they are afraid of. It is a way for them to be creative and express themselves.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
I know a little bit about integrated learning. I have done one lesson plan in my past where I integrated math, art and literacy together in one. It was difficult to make sure each subject was being used to it's fullest potential in my lesson plan. I think it is more fun when students can point out and make connections that they are learning so much in all different areas.
3. Rate your comfort level in making art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I chose 2 because I know I am not the most creative and best artist there is. I can get embarrassed by someone looking at what I have created, even though I should not be. I used to take art classes when I was younger with my best friend but then I just didn't have time anymore.
Now, I believe I am around a 3 with art making. It takes me a while to figure out what I want to do with my piece of art and how I want to portray a message through it. I still get stuck at some points and do not know how to improve my art further.
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I also chose 2 for this rating. I have never really analyzed any kind of art piece before. I have talked about art, but in my way of talking about art is saying "Oh, it looks pretty!" or "I can't really decided what this is supposed to be of?".
I think I am still between a 2/3 on this because I had a difficult time analyzing the children's artwork and did not know if I was doing much of it correctly. I like talking about art in class and giving compliments to others that there art is beautiful. Other than that, I am still in the same comfort level.

End of Semester
1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
After this course, I envision using art in my class a lot of the time. I was given so many great ideas through the studios and other classmate's pieces of work. I can't wait to integrate simple art projects with other core subjects. I think art makes a huge difference in a child's life, and opens up many doors for them. Creativity is key, and everyone is creative.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
I have learned a lot about integration in this course. I mostly discovered a lot of integrative ideas when working with my popplet group and creating ideas for that to use our art studios with other core subjects. Integration is when a lesson uses more than one area of content to focus on. Bringing in many different areas and content makes a lesson more interesting, and you can kill many birds with one stone :)
3. Rate your comfort level in making art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I think after this course, I have been challenged and had to talk about and discuss ideas of my art with Amber and other classmates which gave me insight into other ideas of art that I never knew I was capable of. MY favorite art piece I have ever created this semester would have to be my pop-up home. I tried to use a lot of detail and make it as close as I could to resemble my old home. It had a lot of meaning behind it for me, which made it something special and I loved to create it.
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.

I think VTSing in class and with peers helped a lot for me about talking about art and analyzing it. I didn't realize analyzing art didn't have to use a lot of art terms, as such. But noticing what was going on in the picture or piece of work. That way any observer can make their own inference, and not be wrong. I really can't wait to use VTS in my own classroom. it is a great way to get everyone involved and see if I can pull out information from student's who may be shy. I liked looking at other's work in class, and telling them my favorite features which gave me more confidence to explain artistic details.
